About Us
Familycapped is a not for profit (501C3) parent organization providing services to families who have children with developmental disabilities. Familycapped assists families as they navigate the complex legal, educational, bureaucratic and medical systems.
Familycapped currently serves a population of over 400 families in Central New York and is the only organization of its kind that is governed by parents of children with disabilities.
Who We Serve
We serve developmentally disabled individuals living at home and in the community. Those who can be served include, but are not limited to, those who have cerebral palsy, seizure disorders, autism and related conditions, neurological impairment, developmental delay and mental retardation. Our geographic area includes Central New York.
History
Familycapped was started in 1990 by two mothers as a support group. In 1994 it became incorporated. The agency expanded through a New York State grant and began offering recreational events, family education and training seminars and family reimbursement
